Now, with the COVID crisis having altered all of our lives forever, we are faced with a unique and unmissable opportunity. We can turn a deadly crisis into a life-giving opportunity. We can take the accelerated learnings, changes in businesses’ behaviour, societal shifts and changes in the ways we think and behave as communities and let them inform our path to a sustainable recovery.
There has been a Great Acceleration – in the way we think about brands’ role in society, in our understanding of how we might tackle climate crisis, in our awakening to the inequalities in society that we have chosen to ignore up until now, in our appetite to invest ethically for growth for us and those we invest in – that make this pivot business-critical. The challenge is to make this bold and disruptive move while rebuilding shareholder value in businesses – and the economy as a whole; to make a strategic shift in the way we do business while resisting short-term, unsustainable gains that support the old order.
